Dane eats

Some of you may know the battles I have fought while trying to feed Dane. I currently own 17 books on the subject of child nutrition and picky eaters. Of course when we go to the doctors and tell them that Dane only eats goldfish and cheerios they take one look at our 200th percentile child and laugh at us. To help you understand what we have gone through I will give a top ten list of things we have tried.

1. Dipping sauces for everything

2. Countless sticker and star charts

3. Social eating with all of his cousins during our three week Christmas vacation in Florida.

4. Taking him to the grocery store and letting him pick out everything he was going to try.

5. Taking a mommy and me cooking class and Letting him take part in the preparation on all his food

6. Chocolate covered broccoli

7. three days of nothing but water with his only choice being something other than goldfish or cheerios. With the doctors approval/suggestion in fact. and yes he held out for the three days.

8. Holding his favorite toys over the trash can as we attempt to make him eat. Not wanting to make empty threats we ended losing about $50 dollars work of toys in this process.

9. Shaping the food into fun objects i.e. a face, a plane etc

10. Seeing pediatric nutritionist and such.

I could name a hundred more too. But lately the food gods have smiles on us and we have been making some breakthroughs. The other day Dane ate his first slice of pizza! It took two hours and forty five minutes many threats and promises were made but it finally happened. Here are some of the excuses that Dane thought of.

It’s too spicy
My mouth gets tired
It hurts my feelings

I think I might die if I eat this

It’s too hard to swallow

I’ll give you one more chance not to make me eat this

The pizza gets so sad if you eat him

My chewing gets tired

I haven't laughed so hard since Maglebys in Provo when you were a freshman in school that January. The story was serious and so true but the pictures and the excuses were hilarious! Tell Dane he can help me make pizza at Christmas.

Oh my gosh. That was hilarious! The pictures and quotes are too funny! You might be in the right place out there on the other side of the country, Anne, because you have a budding little actor on your hands! What a ham! And I laughed really hard at the chocolate covered broccoli. I think I might try that on my husband. ;)

That is so Hilarious, I love it. The best part is how everyone always gives you different suggestions and now it will stop because they will see that you have tried everything. I want to see you guys so badly. oh, by the way I was taking a shower and i think i heard mom laughing for about 5 minutes and I guess she was reading this.

Well I know who to talk to now. Eliot's the same way...although he has about 4-5 foods he'll eat. He refuses any meats and vegetables. He's a carb and fruitarian. Grrr.

Oh Anne...I really remember the trials you described having over Dane's eating troubles. I remember one day in the courtyard in EV, you, Amber and Katie were around and I was feeding Ayden a hard boiled egg and you said, "Oh, I am jealous, Dane won't eat that great protein, how do you get him to eat that?" Then I knew that my child who ate about 5 things at the time wasn't the only challenged eater. :) I can definitely still relate to this dilemna! Hope the eating progress continues!!

Those are classic! I feel much better about my picky eater who refuses meat, but will eat tacos.

I love that he gave you one more chance not to make him eat the pizza. Dane is a total crack up and I want you to write a book of Dane-isms. I also love that it just hurts his feelings. The funny thing is that I can totally hear his little voice saying these things. What a funny kid!
